Not exactly a review. But I had to yell it out… The beasts are coming !!
Yes, it’s official. After hearing a lot of rumours about this for a while now, it turns out that its really true. The Gods of Metal “Iron Maiden” will perform in Bangalore on March 17, 2007.

Update: Read review of the concert
Always keen to take Metal to new places, Maiden will for the first time ever play in India, on the spectacular grounds of Bangalore’s Palace on Saturday 17th March, marking the first time a major metal band has ever played in the subcontinent.
Iron Maiden’s new album, ‘A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH’ reached No 2 in the Indian album charts after debuting at No 4, which is believed to be the highest chart position in India ever for any rock act. Maiden will be the first to bring in a full massive western style stage production – air freighting in almost 20 tons of backline equipment and their huge stage Production for this one show.
Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson commented “To say we’re all really looking forward to going to Bangalore is something of an understatement. It’s very special to us to be able play to new fans in countries we’ve never been to before, and we hear the Indian fans are very loud and into their metal. The whole trip will be an exciting time for us and we intend to enjoy every moment there. The fans should know that we are bringing the whole stage show we used in Europe and America and that Eddie will definitely be joining us! We are crafting a special set to include both songs from A Matter of Life and Death and a load of other favorites. It promises to be an absolutely amazing atmosphere playing outdoors in front of the palace.”
A spokesman from the promoters DNA Networks explained, “As this is the first show ever in India to feature three other acts in addition to an international headliner, it will be our first ever festival of sorts and as such an historic occasion. As the setting is the beautiful open site in the palace grounds we thought the occasion should be marked with a special name so we are calling the event ‘EDD-FEST’. We are confident that Maiden and ‘EDD-FEST’ will encourage more Western bands in the future to join us and play here in India, something which would greatly please the huge number of Rock fans in this country. The appearance on the bill of Britain’s Lauren Harris will also be the first time Indian fans will have seen a rock band fronted by a girl”

The Beasts whom we grew up on, the very people who’ve unleashed 14 grounbreaking albums till date, the men who we modelled our lifestyles on…Iron Maiden!!! I cannot think of 4 years of Engineering passing by, without getting into Iron Maiden.
I clearly remember (as if it was yesterday) one of our pals (Undi) passing on a tape of “The Best of the Beast”, telling us to first listen to classics like “The Trooper”, “Hallowed be thy name”, “2 Minutes to midnight”. Man, I was BLOWN! And that was just the entry of the beast into me. And the rest, as they all say, is history!
It’s been almost 7 years since the entry of the beast and I haven’t passed a single day thinking and visualizing how it would be to see these beasts unleashing their voodoo, metres from where I would be standing. Yesterday (the 13th day of February, 2007) was the day when this bestial news was made official.
On the 17th of March, the trooper will have no fear of the dark, making it the longest day. In a Brave new world, we will all run to the hills to experience the dance of death. The clairvoyants forsee an event brighter than a thousand suns.
In the beasts’ own words…
“Oh Well, wherever, wherever you are,
Iron Maiden’s gonna get you, no matter how far”
UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maiden coming to Bangalore is unbelievable!! After following their music for over 21 Yrs , this is a real blast to watch them live …I really hope the audience in Bangalore know more than Maiden’s ” Best of ” and the last album…coz the band together with a responsive crowd can give good reason for Rock , hard rock , NWOBHM bands to come to Bangalore !! Rock & Roll!!

I don’t think the problem is with crowd knowing the music, they actually worship maiden in bangalore, so definitely be there.. coz its gonna be a crazy riot on mar 17!!

yathin, I’d like to know what ‘wat sought of head bangers do we have’ means. Quite clearly, illiterate ones, if they’re anything like you.
But that doesn’t matter, your ‘sought’ of fans can enjoy watching washed up old farts, whose era died out AGES ago. Maiden are a shadow of what they were and will never EVER reclaim the glory that they enjoyed circa Number of the Beast or Powerslave. They’re like Metallica these days. RELICS!!
Sepultura are playing Mumbai and bangalore, but it doesn’t seem to be in April, else there’d be ads and stuff by now. It’s most likely going to be at the tail-end of their European tour before they hit the European festivals.

Also, shouldn’t you be at the front row screaming and hollering for Shakira tomorrow night, yathin?
