Nothing pisses one off more than products claiming to deliver the moon. Heck, even space agencies dont make that claim!
So in comes Hero Honda Motors with a new product that it advertises as the CBZ Xtreme. Taglines like “Blink, and you will miss it!“, or “Once you see it, impossible to forget!” hyped the product up, like never before. If you had followed the Indian biking scenario, and saw this kind of advertising, you would be thinking the CBZ Xtreme to be at least a quarter-litre bike delivering 25+ bhp (One wouldnt expect litre class bikes from HH, after Honda has entered India on its own).
Ah! But that is the twist in the story. The CBZ Xtreme is a bike in the 150cc class, which is.. the same class as the original CBZ was! Shaking your head in disbelief? Dont, not yet! There’s more to it.
First, the power – reportedly a increase to….14bhp(from 12.62)! Didnt you jump with joy? No? Not even for that extreme hike in power? Well, never you mind, I have more info for you to jump with joy on.
The snaps, courtesy Xbhp. All of them showing how xtreme the product is, indeed.

Tank from the Ambition, side panels, wheels from the TVS Apache, Tail lights from the Libero probably, and a grosteque fairing + headlamp. Add in garish stickering and the dials, and you get – an Xtreme-ly bad looking bike.
No wonder they call it the Xtreme. It disappoints Xtreme-ly!
Update: Hero Honda has specs up at the CBZXtreme site. 150cc 14 bhp 143 kilos and claimed 0-60kmph time of 5 seconds. When it arrived, the original CBZ was a 158cc, 12.6 bhp, ~130 kilo machine. With the same 0-60 claimed time. Thats what Hero Honda call progress!

ha ha! you perfectly summed up my thoughts on finally seeing the bike… i too thought it would churn out at least 17-18 horses or even 20-25, whatever the engine size. i also thought it would look truly revolutionary. oh well, i’m now not really looking forward to that “premium” bike they plan on launching sometime next year… i guess, it’s gotta be a pulsar 220 for my next bike buy.

Now this bike is somthin that you wouldn’t forget….. its so bad that u’ll always have it ur NO NO list. So in Hero Honda sure kept their promise.
And hell it looks great, i guess its a copy of the TVS Apache. The old CBZ looks ad feels so much better.
To all those who bought the x-treme…. mistakes happen
Arjun

guys, guys! let’s put things in perspective a little. yes, this bike is a disappointment because:
1) the ads had us believe we could possibly be looking at something revolutionary – maybe a 25 bhp machine, international styling, liquid cooling, front and rear discs, fuel injection.
2) instead we got another 150 cc, 14.2 bhp, air cooled, quite disastrously styled bike
however, let us forget the ad and remember the plus points:
1) in the 150cc class, 14.2 bhp is pretty powerful
2) black alloy wheels – again a 150cc bike
3) POSSIBLY a superior ride quality compared to other 150s.
at the end of the day i too am pissed that the bike was marketed the way it was – back when cbz was first launched it captured all our hearts because it was path breaking. the ads and the past history of this bike led all of us to believe that the new cbz would be path breaking too – none of us expected it to be exactly what one would normally expect of an upgrade – the same bike improved slightly. however, for someone buying a 150, where styling isn’t the only consideration, this probably isn’t such a bad choice. the styling would still be alright in my opinion (despite appearing like a mix and match of other bikes) – what let it down in this dept especially the front fairing. i saw some pics on another site and whole fairing/headlamp looked rather like it belonged on a 100cc petrol sipper.
now i hear that HH plans to launch another new bike (apart from the other 7 they had planned on earlier)… not sure what to expect but i’m not getting my hopes up too much.
in other news, the pulsar 220 is almost certain to come out although there hasn’t been any advertising so far… all i can say is that the bike does turn out to be how all of us expect it to be.
about HH introducing true sports bike (plz, no one say that karizma is a sports bike, or even pulsar – that is laughable)… well 2 things:
1) honda is more likely to do that exclusively and keep the hero honda brand for the smaller bikes (if and when they do launch a sports bike that is)
2) dream on – remember we are in india… the day i took my friends RD out in bangalore, someone asked me at a signal what mileage i get. some other friend saw the bike and asked why i was driving a rajdoot (this rd had rajdoot stickers)

Its a big blow to our expectation. I have expected it would be a rock solid bike similar to the old cbz with improvement in mileage. But hero honda have decided to vanish from indian market. HH should come out from this idea of making improved(as they said)bikes from the earlier one like splender+, super splender, passion +, cbz xtreme etc. please give us some new and quallity products.
They have to restructure there managment……
Go in the primary institute and recruit some fresh blood for better ideas and better understanding of the indian youth….

The people who criticized this bike really got bad taste. While i will be riding this Extreme smoothly for 3 years, you will be taking your pathethic no quality pulsar to the maintenance shop for the 100th time.
Go ahead and buy cheap products (Pulsar), you will lose on durability, see ya!

CBZ had pissed on all of the bike lover hopes, by giving us the CBZ extreme, It look same as their petrol sipper 125 Glamour, Why didnt they introduced the old CBZ with black mag wheel, and upgraded 180 cc+ engine… lot of people would share the same view It was a horrible mistake commited by CBZ the hype which it created, HH would have to launch another power full bike with out any fanfare that would really the erase the sad memory emboresed in the bikers mind

Continuing my comments, Lets talk about CBZ xtreme. I know these snaps on the net are pretty shit, but if any one of you has seen the latest of its ads (Go check them out at cbzxtreme.com), you’ll come t know that its not that bad, in fact its not bad at all. Although the front fairing is a bit odd, but we are not getting it our way bcoz its unconventional. Secondly, don’t dare compare it with apache, that tiny tot for five footers. Its rear handlebars are path breaking & LED tailight is the first in the segment. Its the lengthiest bike in the segment & its rear cuts are gr8t.It has got a comfortable seat and aerodynamically streamlined bod. Its ergonomics are different & fuel tank too is good (again check out the latest ADs),And it has got tuff-up tubes. And please, all those of you who think looks score over performance seem to be all streetkids of the ‘Jhalak Dikhlaja’ types. And in this department it will gonna eat up pulsar without a hiccup.
Guys, don’t get me wrong to be a HH man, bcoz I my self own a pulsar 150 & avenger (latter is my brother’s you see). But you must b kowin’ that people are not fools becoz of whom the resale value of HH soars. They have got the most solid engines and the best aftersales services (like maruti, anywhere and everywhere). Now, just straigten your minds and see how this one fares. And mind you, HH has another 7 models lined up in his kitty.

bottom line is that the ads created so much of hope for a super bike (compared to what we have in india right now) and given how revolutionary the cbz version 1 was. ironically, the ads let us down, not the bike… i’m sure the bike will be solid. but really, i think the poor indian bike lover is fed up of “solid” bikes which are really no more than moped power in many other countries. what am i talking about? check this out
http://www.motorbikes.be/en/Bajaj/2005/Pulsar%20180/reviews/
notice a 2000 model aprillia, 125cc, 2 stroke but with a liquid cooled engine pumps out 34 horses! i think that should put indian bikes in perspective!

I am very much disappointed with the front view of this Xtreme, do any one know how to send this feedback to the makers of CBZ, The old CBZ was far better than this Xtreme in its looks, Xtreme looks similar to Apache n nothing more, may be having more BHP but all that CBZ lovers want is a bit upgrade in its milage n alloy wheels thats it.

hey ppl i have jus come back from the hero honda showroom.
so in short ppl go for this babe. it is as good as the original fast and furious machine(Cbz). actually it is much more fast and much more furious. long live the bike that started it all back in 99. Hail CBZ. god bless all of you. take care.
guys the cbzx doesnt look like the photos at all. no camera can capture the beauty of its design. i myself was getting ready to see a very badly designed bike but it took me by surprise. the designing details, are jus awesome. it actually is much better than both the apache and pulsar. seriously. and not jus that when i took the test ride the bike actuallly felt faster than a karizma, imagine that. i know it was new thats why. but it felt like no other 150 cc bike i ever rode. i have ridden the pulsar, fiero, apache, unicorna and the old cbz, but this bike was really really much faster than all of them. it does 0-60kmph in 4.8 sec with a top speed of 118kmph. its faster than a 180 pulsar in acceleration and the 150 does not even stand a chance. fuel efficiency for the bike is 55kmpl as claimed by the company. the performance figs and design data given by me are from my own experience. hero honda has created a winner for sure. i wanted to book one for myself and they told me that bookings are full till Dec 15th. can you imagine that!!!!! jus look at the demand for this machine.
I dont have anything against bajaj or pulsar, but i seriously believ that the pulsar will hence forth have a very tough time maintaining that top position in the market. i want the bike leaders to compete and make better products as in the end we as the consumer will be the winner
Arjun

hey ikram, thanks for the feedback. i’m not against the new bike – i will check out the looks at the showroom. but, i am skeptical – the pulsar is lighter (137kg i believe) plus 15.8 bhp, cbzx is 141kg, 14.6bhp. you say that it has better pickup than pulsar – are you sure about this? not saying your not right – i’m just skeptical. maybe the cbzx has better pickup at lower speeds and pulsar at higher speeds?

Pulsar owners and new Apache owners have reason to write all dirt on this bike. B’cos they know that Hero Honda are champs when it comes to quality bike making.
)
Pulsar after 15,000kms sucks, lot os maintainence, lot of vibrations, gearbox sucks even on brand new Pulsar. Hero Honda will not make such blunders. Even a flopped Ambition is owned by people with lot pride.
Let the bike come on roads. Infact hypes are created by Bajaj and TVS even selling ‘male’ etc. Hero Honda doesn’t produce ads, it’s ad companies. So down with the noise from Pulsarians and Apache owners

Black Xtreme looks hot, the competition will fear this one. I had test ride on jam packed roads of B’lore couldn’t reach 4 th gear. All I can say is 150cc has new king.
HH is famous for producing quality bikes, TVS & Bajaj didn’t know what bike means, they are copying and selling w/o shame. Their only USP is looks and HYPE.
Hero Honda is BIG DADDY, Bajaj & TVS do cheap bikes. Not Hero Honda

150cc bike owners of other brands than Hero Honda are shedding their crocodile tears thinking that few bad comments will reduce no. of xtremes on roads. Just watch, in three to four years, there will be no Bajaj No TVS all will sink shamelessly. Hondas are here to rule and offer best products for money and protect environment. If Bajaj/TVS respect India’s environment they should have come out with 4S technology of their own. Why did they tie up?? Shame that Apache is powered by Suzuki design. Bajaj is kicked out of 100cc by Hero Honda, In 125cc Zeus, Glam,Super-splen, Glad etc are ruling. Bajaj is thinking that it can beat tough competition by false and jadoooooo ads.

hey prasad, i don’t know who you are or where YOU work (for this website?), but i definitely am arjun in all posts of arjun and no one else. now tell me where have i said the bike is bad. i own neither pulsar, nor apache nor any HH bike. i own an old kb100 and a shaolin, both of which were good bikes in their time, BUT, the time has come for me to buy a new bike. and i AM seriously considering buying the cbz x – i’m looking for enough feedback on the bike first. else it will be a pulsar 180. my brother in bombay has an old cbz and i think it’s a fine bike despite him beating it up – i have driven my friends 2 yr old P180 and was disappointed with the gear box – it reminded me of my 99 shaolin which is quite beaten up and doesn’t get into neutral while the engine is running.

“fool u are talking about a 2 strok bike which cant be made in india..due to polution norms…
is there any way kep idiouts out of bike forums ???” – sameer
(how did i miss this earlier?!)
no you are the fool. who the hell said 2 stroke bikes can’t be made in india? so are you saying a company like aprillia is manufacturing a polluting bike for the EU countries (probably america too)?! there are ways to make even 2 strokes pollution compliant. see this:
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/30/home.aspx
notice it’s a 2007 yamaha yz250 2 STROKE! guess what jackass, it’s sold in the US. what? indian pollution norms are stricter than US?! indian manufacturers aren’t willing to invest in r&d to produce powerful 2 strokes which are non-polluting. it’s much easier to produce under powered 4 strokes instead. and guess what else moron – if you do a google search you’ll find out that most of the 125 cc 4 strokes in the UK are deliberately restricted to around 10 HP, but they can derestrict to 25+ HP.
idiots like you who think that by farting around on a pulsar150 and saying stuff like definitely male, they are bike experts, you guys shouldn’t be allowed on bike forums. but unfortunately this is the internet and these forums are open to all so we have to live with your kind.
sameer
@ Arjun
i can’t believe this guys just wants to prove again and again that he is a fool!!! Abey i said 2 stroke engines are more polluting which means– to develop a good 2 stroke bike india would mean spending a lot on R&D hence the cost of bike wud b higher…. now companies are not total idiots like u who think money grows on trees!!!
they cant make the same CC bikes with 2 strokes compared to 4 strokes bikes!!
and Mr. very intelligent for ur kind information even in developed countries Road bikes are all 4 stroke… check out the date of web page when u do ur stupid google serch and u’ll find…that u need to stuff ur foot in ur big mouth for proving to a whole forum abt ur absolute stupidness !!
abey dimaag laga ghutna nahi !!!
not ur fault .. common sense doesn’t grow on trees..!!
PS: i am not a pulsar fan…. its not the kind of bike i will ever purchase…Cbz xtreme… definetly as soon as the dealer delivers it to me… nothing like cbz
Arjun
what a moron – you just repeated exactly what i said and then called me a fool *rolleyes*
i wish i had the link – BUT… bajaj chairman/MD/or whatever he is was interviewed the other day in auto times. he said bajaj will stop producing 4 stroke/100cc bikes because he doesn’t want to compete with HH in their bread and butter territory – the consumer thinks of only HH in that segment and anyone following suit will just be aping them… or so he said anyway. so guess what ghutna for brains (sameer), you know what? YES! they will attempt to move the goal post in the lowest segment of the market (30-35k) by producing something which is NOT 100cc and is NOT 4 stroke either… what will it be oh cbz riding biker dude? i suppose it’ll be 5 stroke right? after all we all know that money doesn’t grow on trees and 2 strokes = money on trees.
so while i am pleasantly surprised that bajaj is indeed spending on new tech updates, contrary to what i said earlier… you still remain a wannabe – as i said, riding the new cbz didn’t qualify you to be a bike (or even auto) expert. and yes, idiot, the links may be slightly old (the ones about 4 strokes), but what are they but 4 strokes – point being that even the 4 strokes could be beefed up a little without huge increases in engine capacity – which was my original point anyway… but i guess you’d like to believe you’re valentino rossi on your monster 14 HP cbz x… your kinda bike right?
oh then again – i guess you couldn’t understand the point – after all knowledge of english doesn’t grow on trees.

guys their is a new 150 cc pulsar lauched and its much good than the cbz x because it has digital speedo meter and self canceling indicators and backlit switches led taillamps and also gear box
has been upgraded to 1down 4up pattern and the gear box is good compared to the the old one and
engine displacement is 149 cc previous was 143cc
and now the power is 14.2bhp previous was 13.5 bhp
the bike is awsome man i have test riden the new 150dtsi it has been improved in performance and it also has good pickup and over all the gearbox is good and ride comfort and handling is even more better and the mileage is same and the cost has increased by 2.000 but its ok for the goodies that bajaj has given the on road price here in bangalore is 65250 previous was 63k but over all i can say we can see even more good bikes from bajaj. hh greatly disapoints me the cbz was a very good bike i had owned this bike it was a good bike. man they killed it without any upgrades and now we get a crap bike
thats what they call extreme that sucks man.
the old cbz is much beter than the new one if they had upgraded the old cbz then it would have been even better. i am waiting for the pulsar 220dtsfi i hope this would be a good bike

ok here’s some good info on the cbz x (i just read it in overdrive):
1) achiever, unicorn and cbz x share the SAME engine. the latter however has it tuned differently for slightly more power and torque.
2) tank is the same as the achiever
3) top speed roughly 110
4) they reckoned the bike didn’t pull as well at higher speeds as the P150, but that shouldn’t be taken as conclusive, because it was a brand new bike and likely a bit tight.
5) again the bike approaches the red line quicker and isn’t too happy around there as the P150.
all the same, this bike will probably be a good buy in the 150cc segment, at least considering the present competition.

Hey Guys, check out the latest edition of OVERDRIVE(DECEMBER). they have a report on CBZ-X and also they conducted a shootout between CBZ-X, New Pulsar 150(with LED) & TVS Apache. And guess who was the winner?
It was CBZ-X…
and they have praised the bike like anything. It seems it was easy for them to select the winner, sinc CBZ-X was way ahead of other 2 bikes. Pulsar came second & apache was the last.

HI Speedies,
Its realy pathetic.
the blunder bike of the year award is sure for this Bike.
I just thought to opt for a new bike. But I think my idea of buying another RX -100 is better.
But it’s really surprising to see what these companies are claiming and what they are launching.
HH—It’s Haaa Haaa company,, The greatest manufacturer of the SUCKING bikes.
Splendor and all the 100ccs that too 100 problems.
Yamaha —-Claimed to launch Glad and come up with 125 toy machine with an extra gear for consolig the kids. No wonder why people are still asking for the RXseries in the outlets and showrooms.
Suzuki—- After the Shaolin Samurai and Shogun series the only bike that was really a nice one was Fiero the 1st one.
Bajaj—- Yes it has improved a lot ..The DTSI series specially. Come on guys,,,what better do you expect from an auto manufacturing company???
No wonder why the 180 is the best NEW machine
God PLease give them some brain to understand the taste of the youth.
When will they know that we really need higher versions of the following machines:
RX 100, RX 135 or RXZ (14 bhp one) from Yamaha
SHOGUN – from Suzuki
CBZ –Only bike from HH
TVS Fiero The 1st one
LML Adreno—Its a good one
Till than stop dreaming about the HYPED ones and just stick to ur fav machines .. That may be old but please don’t go for all these Puffed Baloons which hjust leaks as soon as they hit the sun rays.
